We had our usual pot luck with the wake up calls this morning. We are still waiting for 2 from lacs past. However, we knew this mornings ones was a 50-50 chance as I repeatedly told the woman on the phone that we wanted it at 5:50. True to form 5:15 we were awoke. Once when I asked for 5 to 6 she said but what time do you want it. I think we will use the good old 5:55 as this seems to cause the least confusion. So we got up at 5:50 for 6 am breakfast and loaded at 6:45 and off. After navigating out of town we hit a good tail wind and made excellent time to the first SAG.
We crossed over the Missouri river and into Missouri. he bridge was pretty narrow and the surface was bump. We managed to find the sign and stop off the road.
Still making good time. Then we had an instruction to "not miss a turn". Well you could see it would be easy to miss as it was a very narrow and rough "road". Today they had not planned a third SAG as there was not good place. The van wold be roving. Well making turns every mile or so down some dubious back roads we started to run dry. Eric who was riding with us only had two bottles and he ran out first. Every vehicle that we hear we hoped was Jim coming up. This was not the case. In the end we stopped at this farm house and asked this nice farmer lady. She said help yourself from the well. he also offered us shortcuts to our destination as well as telling us to pull into a house up the road for milk and cookies. The water was cold and good. The temp was again in the 100's with high humidity.
From here is was rolling country to the hotel.
Distance 124 miles in 6:36.
